Thanks for your interest in participating in our research! Your input will feed directly into new product development and contribute to our understanding of eye health. We share our insights worldwide, including scientific conferences, publications and continuing education for eye care professionals. If you decide to participate in our research, we will always keep your information confidential. We never share your name or personal information.

You will receive $20 per hour for your time.  Some studies provide contact lenses and lens care solutions. You may also get to try pre-market products.

Join our team of research participants! Click here to add your information to our database of potential research participants. Using this information, we will do our best to match you with a study. When we find a match, we will email you the relevant study information and details on how to sign up.

Who are we looking for? We’re looking for you! We conduct a wide variety of studies that require many different types of people. Don’t worry if you don’t wear contact lenses, we also do general eye research.

What to expect now that you have joined our team

STEP 1: We’ll contact you if you meet the criteria for a study

You’ll get an email with a brief description of a specific study. Call our scheduling team for more information or to book a screening visit. Let us know what times work for you and we will do our best to work around your schedule.

STEP 2: Learn more about the study

After you have scheduled a screening visit, we will send you confirmation of your appointment and detailed information about the study, including research objectives, time commitment and what you can expect during the study visits.

STEP 3: Attend a screening visit

Come to our office in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Waterloo. The screening visit is designed to confirm your eligibility for the study and answer any questions you have. A member of our research team will check the health of your eyes as well as your vision.

If you are considered eligible for the study, you will be asked to schedule any remaining study visits. You can decide to stop participating at any point in the study, for any reason.

STEP 4: Attend the remaining study visits

Our studies vary in time commitment. We are happy to work around your schedule. Generally, you will be paid by cheque at the final visit; however, larger sums of money require processing by the University of Waterloo and a cheque will be sent by mail.

Participants are our number one priority

Our clinical research team is made up of trained eye care professionals. We are on-call day and night, should you run into any problems. All clinical research studies conducted at the Centre for Contact Lens Research have been reviewed and approved by a University of Waterloo ethics committee.

We value your time

We pay $20/hour in appreciation of the time you spend actively participating in a study. Where applicable, study products (e.g. contact lenses) will be provided to you at no charge for the duration of the study.
